music monday: the dash in the middle, jordy christo

My church recently added a Saturday night service that I am helping out with quite a bit. During a recent service, Jordy Christo sang a song that was originally a poem written by another member (Tom Price). I wanted to share the song with all of you…

the bibledude manifesto for 2009

As we move into this new year, I have been taking some time to pray, reflect, and talk with several readers of this blog. As a result, I have decided to put together a sort of vision, a manifesto if you will, for the upcoming year. So as I’ve compiled this list of areas that defines what a bibledude is, it is my intent to focus the majority of my content efforts around these topics. So without further adieu…

manifesto.: Biblically Literate :.
One of the most tragic trends that I have noticed in the church these days is that more and more Christians know very little about the Bible. Yup, you’ve read that right! A child that grows up in an actively Christian home where the parents are not divorced is a child that is better off.  Hooray for Christian marriage! Let me even quote directly from the report on the study…

children of microfinance: fernando in bolivia

by Kelli Ross

Fernando is proud to walk to school in his brand new shirt and shoes. “My teacher said that I look really handsome — I love her a lot!”

Fernando in Bolivia

María, Fernando’s mom, started a knitting business in Tarija, Bolivia, with the help of a Five Talents’ partner, Semillas de Bendición (Seeds of Blessing), in order to provide her four children with nutritious food and clothing. The first loan she received was for $14.

“She had great talent in knitting, but her self-esteem was very low, so we encouraged her to start a business,” said Sara and Eva Mamani, Semillas de Bendición program managers. “She was quite fearful, but she decided to take a risk because the poverty in her family was very great. Now, she sells beautiful wool ponchos, and her husband is pleased because their sons are the ones who benefit the most.”
