Michael Card has made his mark as a musician, but his latest project looks pretty interesting. The book reads like a commentary as Card shares his thoughts passage-by-passage through the Gospel of Luke. Today’s resource also comes with a sampler CD of music inspired by this project!

Luke: The Gospel of Amazement (The Biblical Imagination Series) by Michael Card
InterVarsity Press

“His father and mother were amazed at what was being said about Him.” Luke 2:33 “Everyone was amazed at all the things He was doing.” Luke 9:43 “He went home, amazed at what had happened.” Luke 24:12

From start to finish, the book of Luke is filled with amazement. Throughout the life and ministry of Jesus, those who met him were astonished by their encounter, from the shepherds at the nativity to the disciples at the empty tomb.

With careful attention to detail, Michael Card embarks on an imaginative journey through the Gospel of Luke. He introduces us to Luke the historian and imagines his life as a Gentile, a doctor and a slave. Card explores Luke’s compelling account of this dynamic rabbi who astounded his hearers with parables and paradoxes. What might Luke have experienced as he interviewed eyewitnesses of Jesus? What leads Luke to focus on the marginalized and the unlikely? Why does Luke include certain details that the other Gospel writers omit? Join Michael Card in the work of opening heart and mind to the “Gospel of Amazement.”

Many people know Michael Card as a singer….the Author of the Famous Amy Grant Song El Shaddi, but he is no dummie when it comes to theology. I would enjoy this book for a couple reasons it would be yet another great resource for my LIbaray, it would be a book that would stretch me in my thinking and give me a new presepective on the Goseple of Look. Thanks for your efforts and these resource possiblities.

You have been giving away some neat stuff! This one sounds great…book and music. Now that’s my kind of duo. I’ve been taking classes in the Lay Ministry Academy and our next one is on the New Testament. this might come in handy. Thanks for all this cool stuff you’ve been introducing us to, Dude. You rock.

I posted a link to this on Facebook and am hoping to win. I heard Michael Card last Saturday speak and sing about this project!

My wife introduced me to Michael Card’s music years ago … my first exposure was at a concert in Ann Arbor when he was promoting “The Word: Recapturing the Imagination”. I’ve never been a big concert fan … but Michael’s thoughtful words and teaching, even in the midst of a concert setting, have always been meaningful to me. I’ve learned a lot from studying his music. I’d relish the opportunity to work through the book of Luke with Michael’s book.

(Oh, and … I retweeted, posted to Facebook, and I’d be happy to do a book review.)

I shared it on my facebook page (I’ll note it on my blog as well) and I promise to write a review within 6 mos of it if I win a copy – as to why I would want it – well, it’s Michael Card and the Gospel of Luke, need I say more? :-)

I posted on Twitter as @aplectic.

I would like this because I’ve been reading commentaries on the whole NT except I need to finish up with Luke and Acts. An atypical commentary would be nice. In addition, Michael Card is one of my wife’s favorite musicians so she would love the music. It would be great for both of us.

I thoroughly enjoy biblical studies, whether it is NT or OT. Michael Card has a knack for understanding biblical studies and putting the information in layman’s language.

I lead a Men’s Bible study every Saturday morning and would love to have this book as a guide/commentary for our study. I’ve used several of your lectures from your own bible studies (Christ Community Church) in the past. Thank you for considering my vote.
    Walk in your Blessings! Anthony

I want this book because Luke is my favorite synoptic Gospel and I never get tired of reading it and learning more about it. Luke has more stories that include women, and he must’ve talked to Mary.

I posted the link on my facebook profile. ;-)

I’ve been waiting and waiting for something new from Michael Card. In many ways, he is the C. S. Lewis of our age…sound theological grounding, intelligent reasoning and clear, concise writing. And if I win his new book, I will be more than happy to write a review.

I intend to focus my Bible reading this year on the gospels. I do a little writing and song-writing, and want to energize my “being-there” imagination! I admire and respect Michael Card’s work,
    I would enjoy learning fromhim.

William L. Lane has always been someone that I sort out for biblical reference. And knowing that Michael Card was a student/mentor of Bill Lane would make this book special because it would have his insights and teachings in it.
