When Jesus instructs us to, “GO into all the world,” we often struggle with exactly how we can do that when we have to keep up with our jobs and families. If that describes you, then you’ll want to check out this latest group blogging project on a new book called Real-Time Connections. Zondervan describes the book in this way…
Real-Time Connections, by Bob Roberts Jr., will show you how to use your everyday passions to make a global impact … while staying attentive to your job, your home, and your family.
The Great Commission is not just for professional clergy; it is a charge to every follower of Christ—ordinary Christians like you and me. Bob Roberts urges you as a disciple of Jesus to reclaim your share in God’s transforming work around the globe. Roberts illuminates the ways that Christians from any walk of life can use the everyday skills of their career and/or passion in service of God’s kingdom.
Today’s global economy offers you, a follower of Jesus, opportunities to interact with nations and people groups once accessed only by remote missionaries. This book demonstrates the world-changing possibilities your vocation holds when used in service of God’s kingdom
Sounds cool, huh? Over the next few weeks one person from this project will lead us through each part of the book sharing their thoughts, perspectives, and feelings. And we’ve got an exciting lineup of people who will be helping us work through the book together!
The schedule along with who will be sharing is as follows:

- rethinking the great commission – Christina Meyer, @therealshortyc (Servant’s Diary)
- hearing God’s call - Marcus Goodyear, @mdgoodyear (Good Word Editing)

found art: capture [beauty] photography project
This is one of those projects that I expect will blow me away as people like you share to bring together an amazing act of creativity. This creative photography project was inspired by the memoirs of Leeana Tankersley called Found Art: Discovering Beauty in Foreign Places.
This book is a series of stories from Leeana’s life as the well-traveled wife of a Navy Seal, and is interwoven with Ecclesiastes 3. Leeana shares how she finds incredible beauty in places that she least expected it.
As part of a greater project related to this book, Writer and Photographer Tasra Dawson (tasramar.com) will host a photography project on her blog during the week of March 1-5. Participants will be asked to capture beauty, especially in something that someone else might not see as beautiful, and then be given the opportunity to share their picture and explain why they find beauty there. And if you are a follower of BibleDude.net, then I’d like to post your photo here and submit the link to this part of the project.
I think that I may also have some goodies (including a free copy of this book) to give away to a random participant, so make sure you get your photo in for this project right away!
Here’s how you can participate:
- Take a photo that captures beauty where someone else may not see it
- Go to http://www.facebook.com/bibledude.net
- Explain why you found beauty there in the “What’s on your mind?” field
- Click on the photo icon (circled in red) to upload your your photo

- Watch for the new post on BibleDude.net with your photo
If you are interested in following along, then check back with this post often as I will update the list below with links to all of the photos that have been submitted here at BibleDude.net.
- window by nancy rosback
- light wins by karen eck
- innocent play by larry meredith
- prayer walk by dan king

So check out the book, follow this project, and enjoy finding beauty in the most unexpected places!

A couple of years ago I joined a startup network of Christian bloggers. I wasn’t sure if I would get anything out of this thing, or if I’d be able to add any value to it either. As it turns out, it was one of the best things that I’ve ever done as a blogger. I’ve discovered an online community where not only am I encouraged by some of the best Christian content on the web, but where I have an opportunity to be able to bless others in many ways.
I’d like for you to meet HighCallingBlogs.com, a part of TheHighCalling.org…
TheHighCalling.org is a ministry of the Foundations for Laity Renewal. We seek to connect people with the faith that supports and sustains all that we do. That’s why it is the high calling of our daily work. We believe God cares about our work. And we believe Christians are called to glorify God through their work. For us, work embraces all aspects and activities of daily living—including home, community, leisure, as well as occupation.
Recently I’ve taken on a new role with the Editorial Team as the network’s Social Media Editor. In this role I’ll be working on the network’s Twitter accounts (@thehighcalling and @highcallingblog), encouraging discussion on the Facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/TheHighCalling), and sharing occasional posts on the website about engaging community online through social media.
The rest of the Editorial Team is made up of some amazing bloggers, authors, and people who take seriously the high calling of their daily work. And as we develop our team, each of us have been introducing the others on our own blogs, and I’d love to share some of these introductions with you here so that you can get to know this incredible team…

the africa diaries

In May of 2009 I joined a team of businessmen from around the United States as Five Talents International (FTI) sent us out for a Business as Mission (BAM) Trip to Kenya and Uganda. FTI is a faith-based organization that fights poverty with microfinance. They work in areas where there is extreme poverty and help to provide small (micro-) loans to people to help them start businesses that help them pull themselves out of poverty.
The BAM Trip that Five Talents sent us out on is designed to support the local microfinance programs. We went to teach two-day seminars on basic Christian business skills that help the loan clients to be more successful with their businesses. We taught things like how to choose a business, marketing, finances and record-keeping, and how to build a business plan.
While on this trip I journaled many of my thoughts and experiences. I wanted to share those thoughts and experiences here….
- day one: arriving in nairobi
- day two: the road to thika
- day three: visiting the clients
- day four: first day of teaching
- day five: finishing with our first group
- day six: starting with the next group
- day seven: wrapping up business in kenya
- day eight: a retreat to remember
- day nine: headed to kampala
- day ten: the road to kasese
- day eleven: a walk in the clouds
- day twelve: teaching in uganda
- day thirteen: our last classes
- day fourteen: back to kampala
- day fifteen: headed home
So get a cup of coffee or tea (preferably from Kenya or Uganda), get comfortable, and enjoy the journey! And for more of the experience than what is shared in this ‘africa diaries’ series, then check out everything that is tagged with africa ‘09 as a part of this mission trip.
