[12 days of awesomeness] day twelve: love notes to yahweh

As I wrap up this list, I want to point out that there are SO many great Christian blogs out there! And this blogger would be one of the first to jump in and agree with me.
I’ve always known L.L. Barkat as ‘the poetry chick’ from the HighCallingBlogs.com network. And since I’m not really one of those artsy kind of guys, I only casually glanced at her work every once in a while. But recently, I’ve started paying more attention to her.
L.L. actually has several blogs (Seedlings in Stone and Green Inventions Central), but it is her blog Love Notes to Yahweh that I want to bring your attention to. The content itself is pretty cool, but what I think is even cooler is how/why she started this blog. In the comment discussion on a recent HighCallingBlogs.com post she shared that, “When I did the daily outdoor solitude, I was so overcome by God’s Presence that I had to start a whole new blog just to hold my praise.” Amen, L.L.!!!
I’ve already determined that I’ll be spending much more time at L.L.’s blogs, and will let her stretch not only my mind, but also my heart. And knowing what has driven her to start this blog has helped me to appreciate the act of worship that it is.
This has made me think more about what drives many Christian bloggers to do what they do. Regardless of what they might look like on the surface, they are essentially an act of worship to our King. And I think that’s what makes them all so beautiful! L.L. has challenged me in lots of ways in the short time that I’ve known her, but her challenge to do this little exercise has really helped me to take a closer look at other Christian bloggers, and together I think that our collective voice must sound pretty awesome to our King!
Thank you L.L.!

poetry [justice]: pull-apart bread

Before I end, I must begin,
For I cannot go back, and I cannot relent!
It does nothing for me to lay low and to whine,
Or to pick up the pearls and feed them to swine.
No, I must equip and empower the poor,
So I push and I pull and I open the door,
To the weak and forgotten, the blind and the sick,
What is philanthropy if these I don’t pick!
In governing lives I cannot espouse,
Or advocate society apart from its spouse!
For society in general does not entail,
The fight of dear vengeance or its own assail,
For the town fires in justice, but the man spits in revenge,
Yet authority smothers what should be recompense.
And all in due time will unfairness reveal
The heart behind the blind leading the blind as it feels.
Yes, justice is driven by emotion and sense,
And if we were to step back and think in defense,
What would be our answer if love overcame!
The deception of hearts, oh what pity and shame!
But I cannot end before I begin,
I cannot go back! I cannot relent!
It does nothing for you to lay low and to whine,
So pick up the scraps and feed them to swine.

We owe it to each other
to share what white tail already know.
When the pressure changes, they run
together, hooves clacking across asphalt
then silent on the dewy lawns.

poetry [compassion]: compassion, where art thee?

by Renee Small
Cold, trembling hands
And feet;
No coat, no blanket,
Sense of defeat.
Is anyone there?
Can anyone see?
The homeless, the poor…
This is me.
Oh, I ask,
Compassion , Compassion
Where art thee?
Achy, fragile body
And limbs;
No money, no doctor,
Life dims.
Is anyone there?
Can anyone see?
The aged, the widow…
This is me.
Oh, I ask,
Compassion, Compassion
Where art thee?
Afflicted, confused
And distressed;
No friend, no counsel,
Mind a mess.
Is anyone there?
Can anyone see?
The passerby, the stranger…
This is me.
Oh, I ask,
Compassion, Compassion
Where art thee?
Tormented, troubled
And alone;
No love, no guidance,
Left to roam.
Is anyone there?
Can anyone see?
The fatherless, the orphan…
This is me.
Oh, I ask,
Compassion, Compassion
Where art thee?
