[12 days of awesomeness] day four: joyful christian wife

Marlo Boux never ceases to amaze me. I think that when I first met her through some mutual blogging circles, she was a fairly typical stay-at-home wife, home-schooling mom, blogger. After all, the name of her blog says it all! But somehow I had a feeling that she was a little different…
Marlo’s blog, The Joyful Christian Wife, has become a repository of sorts for her growing pool of research and content for some of the other amazing work that she has undertaken since I first met her. Having already completed a B.A. with a double major in Sociology and Criminal Justice, she is now working on Masters of Divinity degree. Ummm… so she’s a little smart…
She has also started working on the popular GodTalk Radio Show on Sunday nights with co-host Greg Glatz. On this show, she shows that she is the real deal when it comes to generating relevant conversation that hits the heart of Christianity.
A little exploration of her blog will turn up some cool personal insights, provocative research, and engaging interviews. In fact, you might even find a cool interview with yours truly!
She has a big heart for dealing with social injustices, and for serving those who have a need. After I sent her a copy of Dino Rizzo’s book Servolution, she started taking sandwiches and juice boxes to area homeless people waiting to get into a shelter for the night. This activity that she started to help teach her kids about serving the needy eventually turned into a bit of a movement and regular activity with the radio show!
So check out Marlo’s blog, and let her challenge the way you think! I promise you that you won’t regret it!

[12 days of awesomeness] day one: paper bridges

Monica Brand is a rebel with a cause.
She blogs at at Paper Bridges where she calls herself “just another Jesus freak, homeschooling mom with a blog.” The web is full of homeschooling moms who have taken up blogging, but one thing that I really appreciate about this one is that she seems to love to engage culture. She discusses things things that are culturally relevant, and never seems to be satisfied with everyday, typical church-ianity.
I think that I originally found her blog through the HighCallingBlogs.com network, where she is listed with the culture blogs.
However, my most significant interaction with her came when she joined a group blogging project here at BibleDude.net on Dino Rizzo’s book Servolution: Starting a Church Revolution Through Serving. Her vlog on chapter two of the book is still one of my favorite entries for a group blogging project so far. Partially because she is still the only one to submit a video entry as a post for one of these projects, but also because I can see how she strives to apply the concepts at a very practical level in her own life.
I love to see people who stretch themselves and other people for the faith. I encourage you to check out Paper Bridges, and join in with her in taking on the culture head-on. I don’t think that you’ll regret it!

Now that the Servolution Group Blogging Project is over, I thought that it would be cool to get a visual representation of the entire project. Courtesy of wordle.net I’ve run the text through from all of the posts and this was the result… Anything stand out to you?

First of all let me just say what a great idea this group blogging project has proven to be! Dan, you’re not only a communicator, you’re a connector. And I’m honored that you have chosen to connect your readers with the Servolution movement.
I’m also so thankful for those of you who’ve written these posts, and those who have spread the word about them on facebook, twitter, and your own blogs. You’ve helped get the message out, and as a result, a whole lot of people are becoming servolutionaries – people determined to start a revolution through serving others.
Here’s a few of my favorite quotes from the posts here on bibledude.net during the last two weeks:
- “The most creative being in the universe wants us to be a part of drawing people closer to Him.”
- “They demonstrated compassion and addressed needs which, when coupled with sharing Christ, wins souls.”
- “Just give stuff away for free.”
- “It’s a message of preparation. When God knocks, will you have your bags packed and be ready to go?”
- “He [Jesus}was the ultimate servant even to the point of death on the cross all for our sake.”
- “We, as God’s people, must be aware of what’s going on around us by being sensitive and ready to give in whatever way is necessary.
- “I want to pursue a heart that breaks at the things that break God’s heart.
- “Allowing the compassion of Christ to overflow from our hearts onto the lives of those around us is the very soul of service.”
- “Serving is not something we compartmentalize, but it’s a way of life.”
- “Our vision comes from Him, is empowered by Him, and is ultimately for His glory. If we stick to those basics, we will be spiritually safe and will bear good fruit.”
- “God calls us to serve. …Servolution wants nothing in return from those served. Nothing except for those sick, poor, and in need experience the love, peace, joy, and hope that can only be provided by a relationship with Jesus.”
- “Anyone can identify the problems, or excuses, but true servoluters are full of solutions.”
- “Appreciation builds loyalty. Not just any kind – but the kind that multiplies. People naturally want to bring others to share in the appreciation. It happened in the early church. People were thanked and it gave them the endurance to face tough times.”
- “The joy that comes from serving is the food that sustains us in this battle! We must enjoy the ride oh brothers and sisters in Christ!”
- “We’re not made to go through life alone…. Serving isn’t always rewarding. But it is a whole lot easier when we have someone with us.”
Wow. I don’t know what more I can add to that. Our heart with this book was simply to tell what God has done, and to hopefully inspire others to believe that God will do the same where they are if they’ll ask Him to. And we’re seeing that happen. Thousands of lives have been impacted by the book, and what is truly more important is that those people are now impacting thousands more in turn by serving others with the love of Jesus in practical ways.
This is not about us. It’s all about Him. And it’s about showing His love to others anytime, any place, whatever it takes.
